Visitor policy
All Advocate Health facilities have a visitor policy in place that helps us ensure safe care. See our visitor policy
Visiting hours
Monday-Friday: 5:30 a.m.-8 p.m.
Saturdays: 6:30 a.m.-8 p.m.
West Tower on Saturdays: 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
On Sundays and holidays, visiting hours are 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m., except the West Tower, which is closed on holidays.
Frequently asked questions
The following visiting guidelines promote a safe, therapeutic environment for all patients in the hospital.
We also provide these safeguards:
- Hand sanitizers are provided for use in the public areas and in every patient room to prevent the spread of colds, flu and other communicable diseases.
- Masks are available upon request.
- The hospital is a no-smoking campus.
Dining services
In addition to our two dining locations shown below, vending machines are available in the lower-level cafeteria.
Advocate Condell Cafeteria
- Open weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to1:30 p.m.
- Located on the lower level of the hospital, the cafeteria is a full-service facility that offers hot and cold meals – including hot breakfast, soups, salads, deli sandwiches, pizza, burgers and hot entrees – at various stations.
The Fresh Start Cafe
- Located on the first floor near the main lobby
- Open weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; weekends and holidays from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- The friendly staff serves Starbucks coffee and delicious sandwiches, soups and sweets in a relaxing, comfortable environment.
Farmer's Fridge
- Open 24 hours every day.
- Located in Fresh Start Café dining area. www.farmersfridge.com
- Handmade for you. Meals are made from scratch, and packed with care. Unsold food is donated to local community members in need through partnerships with area food pantries.
Parking
- Free parking is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Complimentary valet parking is available at our main entrance Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
General guidelines for visitors
Visiting guidelines for the ICU:
- Visitors must be 12 years old or older.
- All visitors will be provided a visitor's badge which must be worn at all times. Badges are available in the front lobby, at the nurse's station on the inpatient unit you are visiting, or after normal visiting hours at the "Greeter Desk" in the Emergency Department.This ID must be worn above the waist and be clearly visible. Some units in the hospital may have specific requirements for visitor identification, which comply with safety regulations.
- Follow the precaution procedures for patients in isolation.
- Do not visit when you have or suspect you have a communicable disease e.g. cold, flu. If in doubt please ask the RN before visiting the patient.
- Do not leave children unattended.
- Respect all patients' need for privacy.
- Keep noise to a minimum.
- Please use the visitor restrooms which are provided throughout the facility.
- The hospital public safety officers have the right to deny access to visitors who display any signs of disruptive behavior and/or are smoking on hospital property.
Visiting guidelines for the New Life Center and nursery
Labor and delivery:
- Three (3) support persons over the age of 12 (at the discretion of the patient and the healthcare team) may be in the labor room at one time.
- Siblings must attend class before attending the birth.
- All visitors to labor and delivery must sign in at the desk. Please call 847-990-5470 for more information. Any person in the labor and delivery room must have a visitor badge with the number of the labor room. The ID must be worn above the waistand be clearly visible.
- Visitors will be directed to the waiting lounge when not in the labor rooms. Visitors cannot wait in hallways outside of the labor rooms or in the postpartum area.
- At any time the doctor is present in the room there will be no exchange of visitors.
- Visitors may be asked to leave the labor room, in which case they should do so immediately and wait in the visitor lounge where the nurse or doctor will contact them when the situation has changed.
Postpartum, nursery and special care nursery:
- Visiting hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for all visitors, except for the banded support person. There are no age limits for siblings provided the nurse carefully screens visitors particularly children for incubating or communicable diseases.
- In the nursery, visiting is restricted to significant other, mother and guardian (once the mother has submitted signed permission).
- In the special care nursery, visiting is restricted to parents and grandparents (accompanied by parents).
Visiting guidelines for community spiritual leaders
- Clergy should check with guest services located at the front desk for the locations of patients they are to see.
- Clergy may visit patients anytime, except when the patient is receiving care.
- Clergy should check at the nurse's station if a notice states that a patient has visiting restrictions or is in isolation.
- Clergy are asked to communicate with the nurse's station if they have administered a sacrament or other religious rituals. This information will be placed in the patient's record.
